Overview

Germany's ElektroG (Electrical and Electronic Equipment Act) implements the EU WEEE Directive and requires all producers placing electrical and electronic equipment on the German market to register with Stiftung EAR (Elektro-Altgeräte Register). Producers must pay registration fees, quarterly maintenance fees, and provide financial guarantees for the collection and recycling of end-of-life devices. The system covers B2C and B2B electronics across multiple equipment categories. Fee amounts depend on the number of product categories registered, the guarantee form chosen, and market volume. A new fee ordinance for ElektroG-BattG was scheduled for August 2025.
