Magical Fees v3.20.0 is a major update with new plans, pricing, and the Audit Log — a searchable history of every fee applied across your orders.
New Plan Names and Pricing
We've renamed our plans to align with Shopify's tier naming. All four plans are live and purchasable now:
- Starter — $9/mo or $85/yr (was $9.99/mo). For stores not on Shopify Plus.
- Starter + Compliance — $19/mo or $179/yr. Adds unlimited Audit Log history (instead of 60 days).
- Plus — $29/mo or $279/yr (replaces Growth at $19.99/mo). For Shopify Plus stores.
- Plus + Compliance — $79/mo or $749/yr. Unlocks unlimited Audit Log history for Plus.
Yearly billing saves approximately 20%. You can switch between monthly and yearly from Settings > Plan in the app.
Starter + Compliance and Plus + Compliance require the optional read_all_orders scope. The app will prompt you to grant it when you upgrade.
The Audit Log
A new Audit Log page (accessible from the top navigation) lets you:
- Search and filter fee application history by order, fee name, location, sales channel, and date range
- View summary metrics: total orders with fees, total fees applied, total revenue (multi-currency)
- Save custom filter combinations as named views
- Export to CSV with formula-injection protection
- Use URL parameters to bookmark and share filtered views
All plans include a 60-day history window. Compliance add-ons unlock unlimited history.
Feature Gating
Six features are Plus-only (and require Shopify Plus):
- Checkout UI Extensions
- Order total fees (after discounts, tax, shipping)
- PayPal and Shop Pay payment-method fees
- Customer tag fees
- Location-based fees (automatic at checkout)
- Cart-level block fees
Fees that use Plus-only features on a Starter plan show an "Inactive on this plan" badge until you upgrade.
Growth Plan Grandfathering
If you were on the Growth Plan ($19.99/mo), you're grandfathered. You keep your plan at the current rate. See What is the Growth Plan for Magical Fees? for details.
Always label deposits separately for compliance
Display bottle deposit fees as a clearly labeled, separate line item at checkout and on receipts. This meets regulatory transparency requirements, builds customer trust by showing exactly what they're paying, and makes it significantly easier to track deposits for reporting and audits. Use a clear label like "Bottle deposit" or "Container deposit (CRV)" so customers immediately understand the charge.
