How to charge Pfand bottle deposit fees with Magical Fees

The fast way: start from a template

Magical Fees includes a German Pfand (one-way deposit) template, alongside deposit templates for Ireland, Poland, Singapore, seven US states, and ten Canadian provinces and territories. Click Add fee, open the template, click Select option values and check the option values of one pack size (for example "6-pack"), set the amount for that pack size in the Charges row, and click Activate fee. The amount and receipt title come from the program's own rules, and the fee's Where it works card tells you if any sales channel still needs setup. See How to create a fee from a template.

The steps below build the same fee by hand as a custom fee.

To add a Pfand bottle deposit fee, create a fixed fee for the bottles or containers you sell. Follow these steps:

1. In your Shopify admin, open the Magical Fees app.
2. Click Add fee, then Create custom fee.
3. In the Select a Method window, choose the Function Method.
4. Enter a title like “Bottle Deposit Fee” or “Pfand.”
5. Add a description for the fee your customers will see at checkout.
6. Set the fee type to Product.
7. Under What it charges, choose a fixed amount and enter the deposit amount.
8. Set the fee to apply to Every product.
9. For bundling, select Matching Product so the fee is linked to the correct item.
10. Under product selection, choose Specific products or Specific collections and pick the bottles that require the fee.
11. If you need the fee to apply by location, add location conditions.
12. Click Save.

This will add a bottle deposit fee to the right products in your store.
