Note: PayPal payment method fees are only available on the Plus plan with Shopify Plus.
If you’re not on Shopify Plus, you can still set up fees for credit card transactions.
To add a fee when someone pays by Paypal, set up a percentage-based fee on the order:
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Apps and open Magical Product Fees.
- Click Create fee.
- Choose the Function Method.
- Enter a title, like “Paypal Processing Fee.”
- (Optional) Add a description.
- Under Type, select Order.
- In Calculation, pick Percentage and enter your rate.
- Under Conditions, click Total (Plus plan with Shopify Plus).
- Under Payment Methods, click Add Payment Methods.
- Check Paypal.
- Click Save.
This will charge the fee only when Paypal is used.

Always label deposits separately for compliance
Display bottle deposit fees as a clearly labeled, separate line item at checkout and on receipts. This meets regulatory transparency requirements, builds customer trust by showing exactly what they're paying, and makes it significantly easier to track deposits for reporting and audits. Use a clear label like "Bottle deposit" or "Container deposit (CRV)" so customers immediately understand the charge.
