You can customize product fee messages in the Fees total or Associated fees app blocks. This does not apply to location-based or payment method fees.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store and click Themes.
- Find the theme you want to edit, then click Customize.
- Open the drop-down menu at the top of the page.
- Select Products (for Associated fees) or Cart (for Fees total), then choose the template you want to edit.
- Click the name of the block you want to edit.
- In the information field, enter your translated or customized message.
- You can use FEE_TITLE and FEE_PRICE to display the fee’s title and price for associated fees.
- For example, on a product page: “This product requires FEE_TITLE. This FEE_PRICE fee will be added to your cart.” On the cart page: “This cart includes products which require fees. Additional fees may apply at checkout.”
- Click Save to publish your changes.

Always label deposits separately for compliance
Display bottle deposit fees as a clearly labeled, separate line item at checkout and on receipts. This meets regulatory transparency requirements, builds customer trust by showing exactly what they're paying, and makes it significantly easier to track deposits for reporting and audits. Use a clear label like "Bottle deposit" or "Container deposit (CRV)" so customers immediately understand the charge.
