How to Manage Rule Prioritization with Magical Vacations

Kyle Godon·Published · Last updated help

If two vacation schedules overlap, the app uses rule order to decide which message or banner shows first.

Rules are prioritized from top to bottom. The rule at the top will always display over the others. If you want a different rule to show first, just move it to the top.

Here’s how:

  1. Go to the Rules section in the app.
  2. Find the rule you want to move. Click and hold the two vertical dots next to it.
  3. Drag the rule to the top of the list.

That’s it. The app will now use this rule first whenever there’s an overlap. If you have any questions, our support team is here to help.

Vacation mode only blocks the online store

Vacation mode only disables the Add to Cart button on your online store theme. Orders can still come through via Apple Pay, Shop Pay, Google Pay, Shop app, PayPal Express, saved cart links, and other sales channels. The app hides the button via frontend injection on your theme — it cannot block checkout at the API level. If you need to fully prevent orders, also pause inventory or disable sales channels directly in Shopify. This is the biggest misunderstanding about vacation mode: it does not make it impossible to place orders, only harder for customers using the standard store flow.
